Yaeba - Crooked Teeth in Japan
Yaeba is the japanese name for crooked teeth. Braces are very uncommon in Japan because they find yaeba to be very cute over there! Especially if teeth overlap or if there is a tooth coming out of the gum area.
I've never had braces before, but I've heard that it is a horrible and painful experience. But is a beautiful straight-toothed smile worth it in the end? Would you date or kiss someone with yaeba? Those two girls are pretty cute!!

oh my....
I had braces, they were awful so I don't blame them, lol...but their teeth are pretty bad
Isn't Yaeba a Japanese manga too? I remember reading that when I was a kid... Anyways, about your topic, I guess it's all about how these people feel about their teeth. I know a couple of friends who really didn't like their crooked teeth so they had to have braces for a pretty long time to fixed their problem.
I had braces when I was younger. I didn't think it was all that painful. I just didn't like having metal in my mouth.
I think beauty is a cultural thing. Some may find crooked teeth cute, while others find it unattractive. It's all personal preference. I personally don't find Yaeba all that attractive. Well, maybe some. But the teeth of the girls in those pictures aren't all that cute.
oh wow i randomly clicked ur plugged site n wow i always wondered why like every japanese grl i saw had crooked teeth (not tryna be rude) but now i see it rly IS common and not just me being judgemental lol. thanks for that explanation!
I had a pallet stretcher, braces and retainers, in that order. The pallet stretcher was annoying and painful, and I had to relearn how to talk and eat with a metal bar running across the top of my mouth for several months. The braces weren't a problem at all; they just required a lot of maintenance. I don't ever recall experiencing any pain from them. The retainers were annoying but not painful.
it really depends on how crooked their teeth are...
Yeah I'm a straight teeth fan.
I couldn't afford braces and my boyfriend kisses me just fine!
The worst part of braces is getting spacers put in. Spacers are little metal rings that are jammed between your teeth to make space for things that will later be attached to your teeth. Other than that, it hurts a little for a few days after you get things tightened. It's not a big deal.
I've had braces, and they worked wonders for my self-confidence. Anyway, in western culture, really crooked teeth definitely aren't cute, so it was worth the braces and retainer. Sure they hurt a bit, but it was completely worth it.
I wouldn't prefer it. But its the inside that is more important right?
@kachino - I've never heard of a yaeba manga. What was it about? Did you know that it meant cute crooked teeth in Japanese? :P
You're right. Braces are uncommon in Japan. I had braces back in elementary/middle school. My teeth weren't that crooked so it didn't hurt that much for me. I dunno. I think having crooked teeth on cute people looks cute. It just depends on the person for me! Those girls in the pics are cute!
Thanks for the add btw! Let's talk more sometime!
I have braces they don't hurt after a week. I need braces cus my teeth growing into my jaw and if i dont get it sorted it is extremely painful so braces are good for me, crooked teeth dont bother me. nice blog btw
@lizzie_wizzie - Oh it's Yaiba and not Yaeba... ;) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yaiba
i had braces back in middle school, and they really weren't that bad! But these girls look cute :) cool site, btw :D
That's pretty scary.
@coolmonkey - i agree. the theme song of "Jaws" keeps playing in my head..
I always wondered why japanese models had crooked teeth.
I find your site very interesting btw =D
@BaLob - thanks! ^^ and i love your hair lol
nope.... im all for straight teeth :) with the braces arguement tho wouldnt it fit the quote ' beauty is pain ' .
also its interesting seeing other countries opinions on teeth :) for instance in Thailand braces are considered rather fashionable these days.
@panda_cupcake - definitely, especially for girls. High heels & push-up bras are a pain! Are you Thai btw? Or have lived there for a long time? Coz i remember you mentioned Mcdonalds in Thailand in a previous comment :)
@lizzie_wizzie - ah indeed i did mention it in another comment ^^. i am half thai :) and visit every year. very interesting blog btw.
eww crooked teeth scare the crap out of me. how can you have a nice smile with ugly teeth? i'm definitely all for braces! (i had them for 2 years and it was worth it. its not THAT painful!)
