  • Apple meets Apple

A hardcore Mac fan in Japan grew these apples.

He pasted cut-outs on the surface of these Fuji apples so that the sun would change the colour of the other parts of the apples as it grew. The skin is the most healthy part of apples. For Fuji apples, their skin has the highest levels of phytochemicals and flavonoids compared to other apples. However, after doing a literature search at my university, I found a lit review that found that apples obtain these phytochemicals from the sunlight. So that small white area holding the Mac symbol or Ipod design will have less phytochemicals than the other parts of the apple. It's such a small part though. There will still be lots of health benefits to eating this apple!

But anyway, what hard work to grow these Mac apples! This guy deserves a personal visit from Steve Jobs. And probably a free computer too!

I don't think this Japanese man made these apples for profit/sale though. He just did it as a hobby and for fun because he is such a big fan of Mac! Normal Japanese apples (without the Mac symbol) are quite pricey though! In HK, I saw these huge Japanese apples about 3 times the size of a normal apple -- the price was HK$60-70 or about CDN$10. That could buy me dinner!

Do you own a PC or Mac? I've heard great things from Mac-owners. I don't know if they are big enough fans to buy this apple though!
