Korean Woman Sued for Being a Victim of Domestic Abuse
My friend and classmate Tammy sent me this article and it deeply saddened me to read it. Choi Jin Shil is a Korean celebrity that was allegedly abused and physically beaten by her husband and in the end, unfortunately, she commit suicide.
However, before all these unfortunate events happened, Choi signed a contract with Shinhan Engineering & Construction Co. to be their representative model. Recently this year, pictures of Choi's bruised and battered face have showned up everywhere on the internet and media. Shinhan company decided to be money-grubbing pricks and have sued the actress (from the grave!) claiming that she did not follow the contract of appearing "happy and dignified". How can you expect a woman to be beaten and abused -- and then be happy about it??
What's even more horrible is that the Shinhan company won. They will receive 1.1 billion won (approx US$600k), which is 1/5 of the estate that was left to Choi's young children. Who must still be going through a tough time with a custody battle!
Shinhan pulled such a dick move and I wonder if this has anything to do with Korean culture. In Korean dramas/movies, I've seen women be told to shut up or have a glass of water splashed in their face when they try to speak up. I don't understand it very well... I'm not saying that Korea is anti-feminist. I have several Korean friends in Canada and Hong Kong that treat me with lots of respect and kindness. However, Covergirl didn't sue Rihanna for appearing unhappy after she was abused by Chris Brown. The Exact Eyelights mascara ad is still being run in magazines today and her CD sales went up more than 30% after the incident happened.
I have never heard of the Shinhan Engineering & Construction Co, but I really hope that they get negative publicity over such a dick move. I really hope that their image is ruined and that they fail (fait patates) in business. Just like how I don't want Chris Brown to make more music because he should not be a role model to ANYBODY. I just want to get the word out. If you feel as insulted and disgusted as I am towards Shinhan, you can let them know what pricks they are here.
It is NOT a woman's fault if a man abuses her. She is a victim.

That's horrible! I can't believe they even had the nerve to sue her from the grave.
omg! that is horrible
Thats truly sad... Profit off of something that was out of her control... INSANE!!!... Im sure if a company in America where to do such a thing.. we the public would boycott there products at all costs... (Or many people would)...
year 2009 and 2008 saw a lot of suicides in the korean entertainment industry. It's really sad, everytime i went online, i read about another one. The ones that stick out are the ones that had to do with sexual abuse. The most recent one that i knew of is an actress named Ja jung yun. And back in 2005 it was Lee Eun-Ju, an actress who was distraught over the nude scenes she had to perform in a movie.
