  • The Deal on Cellulite Creams

Did you ever think it's too good to be true?

Cellulite is a common problem amongst women. It is the dimpled appearance of skin appearing mostly on the thighs and buttocks area and is commonly known as "orange peel" or "cottage cheese" skin.

In the last few years, plenty of products have emerged claiming to combat this cellulite problem. A lotion that will make me skinnier?! Many of these advertisements for cellulite creams prey on womens' insecurities, causing them to purchase these products with false hopes.

First of all, cellulite is just plain fat. Underneath your skin is a subcutaneous fat layer that can expand and cause the dimpled appearance against your skin. Women are more susceptible than men because of the hormone estrogen, which causes more fat to be stored around womens' hips and thighs. (But this also gives us our beautiful & sexy curves!) Men do not have as much estrogen as women, so men are more likely to store fat around the visceral (abdominal) area.

Fat insulates our body against shock and helps our body maintain proper body temperature. Our blood also needs lipids flowing through it. Vitamins A, D, E, and K are fat-soluble vitamins, so they cannot be digested, absorbed, or transported throughout your body without the help of fat. Therefore, as much as you hate your muffin top, we need to have SOME fat in our body.

Even really skinny people have cellulite!

Which brings me to the topic of celebrities. They have TONS money and are living in a world where every minute of their lives is followed and judged. If there really was a cellulite cream or surgery operation out there that could get rid of cellulite, even if it was really expensive, don't you think Hollywood's celebrities would have tried it already? And they still have cellulite -- because fat is a normal and essential part of life and our bodies! In the scientific literature, there is no published proof that cellulite treatments and therapies work. Celebrities confirm this!

There are several factors that may cause cellulite to have more of a distinct appearance on some bodies and not others. This includes genetics, age, diet, lifestyle, etc. The fat cells in your body can swell up and decrease blood circulation in that area. When the lymphatic system cannot flush out toxins, fats, and fluids, then the dimpled skin appearance may worsen. You may be able to help increase the blood flow to your skin through hydration, diet, and exercise, but no you can never get rid of cellulite completely because again, it is just plain fat.

Advertisements for cellulite creams are misleading. They may show a large number percentage like 97%, misleading readers to think that the cream will decrease their cellulite by 97%. However, if you read the small print, the ad actually says that this is the percentage OF PEOPLE who tried the cream and saw a slight diminished appearance of cellulite. Companies do produce their own studies and research, but it is often biased because they will only publish results that help advertise the product. Their studies may not be reliable or feasible, which is why they are not published in scientific literature.

It is very misleading when a product is called "fatgirlslim" like in one of the above pictures. Companies also use very slim models to represent their products. They can use photoshop or photo editing to smooth out the models' skin. What I find silly is that companies may get a celebrity to endorse their cellulite cream. But no matter what that celebrity says, she was already slim to begin with! She gives the false impression that she is slim BECAUSE of that product, which is not true.

My favorite celebrity is probably the Korean singer/dancer Hyori Lee because she's a sexy angel! I think she is sexier than Megan Fox and Jessical Alba combined! Why? Because she has a more sweet and endearing appearance (yes I think Megan Fox looks mean and bitchy!) And... Hyori can DANCE. Now that is sexy!

This is a video of Hyori Lee endorsing Biotherm's Celluli Intense Peel.
I don't know why, because there is no nudity or sex in this video, but you may need a youtube account to confirm your age before you can view this video. Why? Because Hyori's dancing is just too damn HOT!

I have fallen prey to the marketing tricks of cellulite cream advertisments as well. It is really unfair when companies prey on your insecurities and give you false hopes like that. I love Hyori, but she was slim and sexy way before Biotherm's cellulite peel ever came out! I have tried so many products: Nivea, Jergens, Biotherm, Estee Lauder, Loreal, and the list goes on. What a waste of money! I never saw any real reduction of cellulite from these creams. The only time I saw a reduction was when I exercised consistently and lost weight. Hyori's body is amazing because she EXERCISES. Dancing is an amazing form of cardiovascular exercise. Dancers' bodies are always the best!

Have you ever tried a cellulite cream or lotion? What results did you find?
