Mix It Up With Frozen Vegetables!
I sometimes find incorporating vegetables into my diet is difficult because my fresh vegetables keep rotting away! This is why I value frozen vegetables so much. I keep a large bag in my freezer and I do not have to worry about them going bad. I add them to pretty much everything.
And I mean... EVERYTHING.Some people think I add frozen vegetables to the weirdest stuff. I have those days when I am so busy or tired and I just want to cook Mr. Noodles, Kraft Dinner, or canned soup. Although these processed foods are high in sodium and contain very little nutrients, adding in a 1/2 cup of frozen vegetables gives you that extra kick that makes these meals just a little bit healthier!
Take a look at the nutrition facts table of mixed frozen vegetables and you'll find that just one serving of vegetables (1/2 cup) will give you much more vitamins and an extra 4 grams of fiber that will help keep you fuller for longer.
Hate the taste of vegetables? You'll barely notice these finely chopped up frozen mixed vegetables in your food.
Adding vegetables to Kraft Dinner macaroni?? YES! It gives it a colorful kick as well. Many people, including myself, can eat the whole box of Kraft Dinner and not feel full. So add more fiber with frozen vegetables!
I cooked spaghetti for my boyfriend the other day and I poured in some frozen mixed vegetables when I was making the sauce. He said he has never seen spaghetti like this in his life! He really liked it though with the extra peas, carrots, corn, and beans.

Nobody ever taught me how to make spaghetti. I never looked up a recipe either. I think mushrooms or fried onions are commonly found in spaghetti, but I really just throw in whatever I have in my kitchen. Frozen vegetables are always ready at hand waiting in my freezer!
Canada's Food Guide recommends adults to have at least 7-8 servings of vegetables and fruit per day. This means that you really need to try to incorporate vegetables and fruit into every single meal and snack of the day! Just 1/2 a cup of frozen mixed vegetables is an easy and convenient way to sneak in another serving of vegetables.
More tips on how to VEG it up coming soon!

Yum! I find fresh green bell peppers taste great in spaghetti too
Brilliant! Every time I read your blog I love it more and more. :)
I've been throwing frozen veggies into things a lot lately, it makes life so easy. Just BAM! full meal! I've been really liking corn recently, and have been spicing up plain pasta by sauteing frozen corn and garlic salt in some butter then mixing it in with the pasta. The corn gets cooked but kinda crunchy, mmmm.
Wow, didn't realize how much more beneficial that makes things! As much as I don't usually like veggies, I may have to try this out.
Very nice nutritional plan ... Don't know how to make spaghetti? Really? ;)
are frozen vegie less healthy then fresh ones? and does banana counts as veggie, because to me they're more like full of carbohydrates then fiber.
@y_tc - Frozen vegetables are still a great choice because they are full of fiber and nutrients. You need to watch out for canned vegetables because canned goods contain lots of sodium.
Bananas would be counted as a fruit. On Canada's Food Guide, fruits and vegetables are together in the same category. It's best to try to get more vegetables than fruit, but both are still great. Off the top of my head, I think a banana has at least 3g of fiber in it. Awesome! :)
@kachino - I just assumed it was... a ground meat + tomato sauce + whatever I can find in the kitchen!
I'm a genius! ;)
@i_Nutrition - You wanted to make it from scratch?
The Spaghetti looks good! :D
I want the recipe for the spaghetti! lol. It looks really good....

99% of the veggies I buy are frozen! And I add them to basically everything.
I need to eat more veggies, for serious. It's getting bad. In spaghetti, though? That's...different. I just like my meat, sauce, and noodles.
Yummo. I do the same thing.
fresh veg for me... the market's just a block away from where i'm staying... and they open like 4 in the morning... :D
