Poutine & Life in Quebec
Poutine has got to be the unhealthiest thing that I have eaten! And Canadians created it? OH MON DIEU! I heard that most Americans do not know what a poutine is. It's basically just french fries covered in gravy and cheese curds. It looks like a big hot mess. It's very popular and delicious, but like a lot of delicious things, it's high in bad fats and calories.
Poutine @ Bravo Pizzeria in Trois-Rivières, QC
I met up with Kachino in Montreal, where he took me to la Banquise for "the best poutine in Quebec"!
Their menu was crazy! They're poutines had all kinds of toppings like pizzas!Poutine is supposed to be a speciality of the province of Quebec and French-Canadians. I think people tend to eat more when travelling because you want to get the most of your experience. Food is a huge part of culture! But I can't eat too much poutine anyway, because it makes me feel so heavy/lazy afterwards! Good/healthy foods should give you lots of energy and life!
I'm really enjoying my time in Quebec for my French-language bursary program. I feel like I'm in another country because everyone speaks another language. But nope, I'm still in my homeland Canada! The French gives me a very romantic-Paris feeling. I love it!
I was browsing a few bookstores in Quebec City, and found the French version of one of my favorite books: "Eat Pray Love".
But instead it's "mange prie aime"!"Eat Pray Love" is one of my favorite books because it's all about finding yourself and overall wellness (eg. self-esteem, happiness within, etc.). The book is coming out on film. I get so excited everytime I watch this trailer! Julia Roberts is absolutely perfect for the role.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZzmqHJ0gPUIn the trailer, the main character talks about "having a relationship with [her] pizza" and the "no carb left behind" diet. Although overeating leads to weight gain, obesity, and chronic diseases, in a lot of situations (and in this movie as well), food HEALS the mind, body, and soul. Food makes us happy and gives us energy to be the best that we can be.
This is the story's "eat" portion. In the "pray" portion, the main character does a lot of meditating and yoga and loses all of her excess weight. A lot of people get discouraged when they gain weight, but it's important to remember that you can lose weight too. The number on the scale is not important when you compare it to your happiness, emotions, energy levels, and overall wellbeing!
I think at all ages, we are still learning about ourselves and the world. In this French-language bursary program, I feel that I am definitely changing and maturing too. Most people come into this program not knowing anybody. Go some place where noone knows your name. You can be whoever you want to be. For me, I'm trying to be a more outgoing and less self-conscious person here. I'm also kind of a potty-mouth, and I'm trying to tone that down here. I think I'm doing well! Because I'm not swearing very much here. But I also don't really know that many swear words in French.

It's time to study more French!Follow me on Twitter: @Elizabbit
