  • Looking like a granny at the grocery store

I am loving my new sustainable grocery bag. I live on my own and don't own a car, so grocery shopping for fresh produce can be a real pain. I bought a bag that acts as a cart with wheels:

And it folds up nicely to make a hand bag:

When I'm walking home with a cart full of groceries, do I feel like a granny? Yes. But man, it is way easier to carry stuff and make more frequent trips!

I haven't updated in a while and I feel super bad. So here are some more random pictures of dorky nutrition-related things that I have been wanting to share!

My friend's house had these really cool measuring cups:

They are magnetic so they stick to the refrigerator door. You can pop them out and turn it into a measuring cup!

I think these measuring cups serve as a great reminder to portion size your food and snacks instead of eating right out of the jar or bag.

And then I was at a frozen yogurt place with a good friend and they served me frozen yogurt in a cup with this quote on it. And then I fell in love with this cup! (I asked for extra fruit on top.)

"To eat is a necessity but to eat intelligently is an art." - La Rouchefoucauld

And this is so true. We all need to eat because that is basic survival. But do you choose to put crap in your body? Or fuel it with rich and wholesome foods full of vitamins, minerals, fibers, and antioxidants? It all becomes poop in the end. But putting crap in your body will make you feel like crap too.

Okay, so why I have not updated in a while...? Excuses excuses...

    1) I've moved into a new city and place.
    2) I bought a new computer and it has some kinks that have been pissing me off. It took me a while to get my video editing program onto this computer.
    3) I started my dietetic internship last week.

But the biggest problem is that I have been having confidence issues with this video/Youtube project. I have filmed things... but after watching what I've filmed, I hate it. Maybe I am just a perfectionist or I worry about people judging me too much. I worry about how the professional dietetic world may perceive my videos and blogs. I worry that my opinion is not valid or based on sufficient research.

And most of all, it's really difficult to sit on my bedroom floor and talk to a camera. Awkwardness. It's so weird to hear myself talk. I don't like looking at what I've filmed. I am just hard on myself.

Okay I need to shut up now. I totally overthink things. I do appreciate support and encouragement from friends though. I come across to others as a strong and confident person, but the reality is that I'm not as strong/confident as I'd like to be.

But I'm trying. I hope to get a new video out this Wednesday. I have filmed a product review video of five healthy foods that I've been eating recently. But even with this, I am not confident. My new roommate said she loves to hear product reviews on make-up and beauty products. But can I capture your attention span for seven whole minutes of me just talking about food?

I've also filmed another skit with Michael. We filmed this video a few weeks ago, just before I left Vancouver. I have not edited it yet, but here is a preview:

    "Healthy Michael" is adorable!

Wow!! that is an awesome bag. But aren't the wheels heavy?? O_o The one thing i wanted was the back pack with wheels. But massive eprops for all your videos. I thought of twilight after looking at michael with the apple. LOL. But best of luck to everything. Go explore the new city!

  • sonychak

alright ready for the new video.

I liked the video I watched.  I think you're doing a great job, I don't really know of many nutrition bloggers, nor ones that make videos so keep it up.  Although admittedly, 7 minutes is kinda long for anything given

    my

attention span, but maybe others are better than me.

  • Roadlesstaken

Nah keep on doing the videos the way you're doing.  They are reaching their intended audience, and quite well!

I guess in time I can forgive you for the lack of updates lately.

  • theHealthRabbit

@Chris284 - The wheels are pretty light. bahaha!!! I think Michael will appreciate that Twilight comment :P
@npr32486 - There are a lot of great nutrition blogs out there by registered dietitians. I follow a number of dietitians on Twitter and made a "list" of them. Few dietitians/nutritionists on Youtube... have come across two. But none have taken a silly/fun/stupid skit approach. I guess I'll try to make a variety of videos... I don't like straight-talking videos either.... I learn better from reading. But... I think some people might learn better at listening to someone talk. Something interesting to think about!
@Roadlesstaken - Alex, at least this time, you did not have to bug me to update! Xangaville (although annoying) reminded me to get back onto Xanga :)

@theHealthRabbit - is this list posted somewhere?  i like your approach, the other stuff i read etc. is too dry.

  • theHealthRabbit

@npr32486 - Not everyone uses Twitter, but if you do, here are a couple of lists that you can follow:
    Dietitians on Twitter:
    http://twitter.com/#!/list/Elizabbit/dietitians
    and some Health blogs:
    http://twitter.com/#!/list/Elizabbit/health-blogs

If you click on the individual twitter usernames, you should find a link to that dietitian or person's blog site.
Two sites that I really like are:
    http://www.fooducate.com/blog/
--they're really good at analyzing specific ingredients in food. I'm not sure of the background of this blog's writer/organization. But they seem to have a really powerful knowledge base in food science.
    and
    http://www.healthcastle.com/
--this site is written by a group of dietitians. Solid nutrition information.

That's a kool bag,  if I shopped Id want one.

  • Shinbi_Belldandy

If I dont have a ride, I use a book bag or those plastic checkerboard pattered laundry bags. I have no shame. You gotta do what you gotta do. I have yet to find a shopping cart down here!!! When I go back to NY I'll get one.

Also I love your videos & everyone else does too. You make healthy eating fun without beating us over the head! That's why I recommend your blog! Please dont change? I got cookies...or would you prefer carrots? XD
  • graciebaisee

Keep it up with the vids Lizzie ^^ Though once internship gets crazy, don't be too hard on yourself if you can't keep it up!

  • sf2slc

Which new city are you at? I hope it's fun. I don't think i can ever eat healthy if i live in Vancouver because there's too much great chinese food (esp. in Richmond)

  • mZdejavuZ

    Wow, that's a really cool bag! :)

And, "Fear is that little darkroom where negatives are developed." I hope you remember to keep focusing on your dreams and goals, and doing what's right for you. There'll always be haters or naysayers, no matter what you're doing in life, but as long as you're following your heart, you can never go wrong. I hope you never give up on your passion, simply because you're afraid of what others think. Don't let them bring you down or discourage you. You're honestly great at what you're doing so far. I can't wait to see your other video, and yes, I would watch your 7-minute video because I know that it would be quality work.

  • kachino

You? Confidence issues? Are you serious? ;)

  • theHealthRabbit

@Shinbi_Belldandy - Thank you for always being supportive! I am going to try to make a variety of videos and see what works. Some people learn better via listening than reading... I may experiment and try different approaches :) Carrots FTW!
@sf2slc - I've moved to Hamilton, ON for my internship. I find that I eat best when I make/cook my own food. You're right, Vancouver has a lot of temptations!
@mZdejavuZ - *wipes away a tear* You are so kind!!!! I'm currently trying to cut down this video. The frequent cuts are a bit unsettling, but I think faster information is better. i think I might get down to five minutes and a bit. That's not too bad right? I have to remember to work on improving, instead of being afraid to even try. Thank you for your kind words and support!!

  • mZdejavuZ

@theHealthRabbit - LOL, aw you're so sweet, no problem. GO YOU!! Keep doing what you're doing!
