Your article was a good read, and I like the way you write. By the way, let me recommend you an ainol novo7 as an awesome X-mas gift. Hope you'll like it.
@theHealthRabbit - Wow, you're that busy eh? ;). Alright, looking forward to your next weblog when you'll have time to write it :)
@kachino - Internship doesn't give me time to blog :(
No updates on the Vancouver Canucks or your job? ;)
Hey, wish you a nice X'mas.
@i_Nutrition - so i read your blog on emotional eating... i know why i emotionally eat and when it started... i pretty much eat when i'm bored... stressed... hungry... and it started about almost 6 years ago... growing up i pretty much ate really healthy 'cuz my mom pretty much wouldn't let us eat any kind of junk food and pe in school and a basket ball hoop in the backyard kept me and my brothers active so i was 115 lbs all my life up until 6 years ago and from 6 years ago to now i've gained 35 lbs but then recently lost 10 lbs... so i'm hopeful that i can slowly lose some more weight and still be healthy and eat healthy... but the temptations are so hard to resists sometimes but i got the hang of telling myself NO and tried to find better alternatives... i been snacking on apples for breakfast and between breaks at work... but my only thing now is RIC
@i_Nutrition - oh yeah! canned tuna my mom buys a lot of those! i try to put different things in the tuna like onions or hard boiled eggs and tomatoes... surprisingly it was really good... i made tuna melts with wheat sourdough and that was the best bread to pair it with! i didn't think lean cuisines were expensive... eh i guess i'll go back to eggs! i tried one recipe on ireallylikefood with bell peppers and onions that turned out really good! and i usually have my eggs with spam... and i know spam is REALLY bad since it has so much sodium in it... do you have any recipe suggestions? and i'm gonna check out your blog on emotional eating right now! thanks a bunch!
@CrAdLe2daGrAve - I totally lived off Lean Cuisine in my busy final year of university! It's definitely one of the best frozen entrees out there since there are no preservatives. I find them bigger and more filling because they use lots of vegetables (especially the "Spa Lean Cuisine" line). You can pair Lean Cuisine with a glass of milk or serving of yogurt to complete the meal. The only problem is that it's pretty expensive don't you think? I find eggs are great for a person on a budget. They're cheap and last a long time in the fridge. I used to also love toast with peanut butter and sliced bananas on top. And I'd freeze the loaf of bread to keep it longer. Canned salmon/tuna is also great on sandwiches and salads!
i have to say your info is more legit than healthkicker! so i have a question about lean cuisine and "healthy" frozen foods... i'm REALLY trying hard to eat better but i'm always on the go and as a broke ass college student do you think lean cuisine is the way to go? or is there any other easy alternatives? i've already cut down on fast food and sweets and proportion sizes and i'm drinking either low/reduce fat milk or organic milk and fat free milk and eating fat free yogurt like yoplait light but i still have a problem with just eating right period when i don't have the time... and how do i overcome emotional eating?
@topica_05 - Hey :) I didn't go to UBC! I went to the nutrition program at the University of Guelph, but I actually have a high school friend who just got into UBC dietetics program! I'm so happy for her. I heard that it is difficult to get in! Here is a website for UBC's dietetics program: http://www.calendar.ubc.ca/vancouver/index.cfm?tree=12,194,261,11 It lists the prerequisite courses that you need to get into the dietetics program there. I also believe Karol Traviss is the program counselor or something of the program. (ktraviss@interchange.ubc.ca) I believe you can make appointments with her and discuss your route to get into the program. Good luck!
Hey there,
I got admitted into UBC's Faculty of Land and Food Systems where I'm planning to study Food, Nutrition, and Health. I was also hoping to enter the dietitics program that you're currently in. So, I was wondering if you took the Food and Nutritional Sciences double major. Or... what programs did you enroll in so that you were qualified for the dietitics program?
Any other suggestions for courses I should take would be greatly appreciated!
@NYPr1ncess - I'm so sorry for my late reply! Coffee in moderation is absolutely fine. Just watch out for high fat creams and sugar! Black coffee itself has very little calories. Caffeine can really help you to power your work out! If you're looking to work out w/o the help of coffee at the end of a tiring day... hmm.. that's a toughie. In general, exercise will make you more energetic and have more energy. It's just *getting* to the gym that's the tough part! Eating a small snack can also help give you the energy for your work out. Food has energy too! Try a small handful of almonds or a piece of fruit. Good luck!
thank you for answering my previous question, I have since stopped paying attention to when I drink water (before, during, or after meals) I just drink it!
I would like to hear your answer to another question; What is your take on coffee? Is it healthy, does it help or go against weight loss. How would a person who tends to lose their energy at the end of the day, attempt to work out without help from coffee?
I think I went a little question-happy there... but whatever answer you can give me will be much appreciated!
Thanks for adding me! I think your blog is really interesting and inspiring!
@NYPr1ncess - Hey there, thanks for the feedback! As for your question.. I don't think there is any set rule on this topic. I'm sure that everyone is different and may have different issues when it comes to this. My opinion though... is that your stomach is like a bag/sac and fills up and empties out. Whether or not you drink water before/after/during the meal, you are still contributing to the filling of this sac! Drinking water during your meal may actually help you to eat slower, and recognize when you are full. It may also moisten your lips/palate and perhaps enable you to eat more! I think it really depends on the person! Water is a great choice though! I've read about studies where people register the same satiety from all liquids, no matter if it's water/juice/soda pop. So it's great to stay away from those empty liquid calories.
Im so glad I stumbled upon your blog, it is not only informative but very interesting! thank you for all the health tips! I have one question, from your studies or experiences, would you say it makes a significant difference to someone who is dieting (or not) to drink water while eating a meal? Ive heard various myths about this, that its better to drink water before, or after a meal, but not during. Ive recently tried to put this myth to the test, and I unfortunately dont know if has has any positive effects on me, because Ive been eating more and drinking less :-\ If you have any opinions or tips on this, please do share with me! Keep up the amazing work, I will continue to read all of your information!
Hey! I love your site, its so so so so very helpful! You will make an amazing dietitian some day
mmm well...i probably just need motivation ha! i don't think my diet is too bad...but it's a slow process getting those abs back the second time XDDDDD
@communitychannel - My brother just finished his masters in environmental chemistry. He told me and my family that heating up plastic in the microwave is definitely not good! But... unfortunately I still do it sometimes!
